Trisodium Citrate Dihydrate

General Information

Trisodium citrate dihydrate is a triple salt of citric acid. This material is produced by complete neutralization of citric acid with high purity sodium hydroxide or carbonate and subsequent crystallization. Trisodium citrate dihydrate is widely used in various foods, beverages and technical applications mainly as a buffer, separator or emulsifier.

trisodium citrate dihydrate

Trisodium citrate dihydrate is found in the form of white and granular crystals or in the form of white crystalline powder with a pleasant and salty taste. It is slightly dilute in humid air, dissolves freely in water and is practically insoluble in ethanol (96%).

Trisodium citrate dihydrate is a non-toxic, neutral salt with low reactivity. If stored at room temperature, it is chemically stable. Trisodium citrate dihydrate is completely biodegradable and can be disposed of with ordinary waste or sewage.

Trisodium Citrate Anhydrous

General Information

Trisodium citrate anhydride is a tripod salt of citric acid. This substance is produced by complete neutralization of citric acid with high purity sodium hydroxide or carbonate, followed by crystallization and dehydration. The common form of hydrate, trisodium citrate anhydride, is widely used in various foods, beverages, and technical applications, mainly as a buffer, separator, or emulsifier.

trisodium citrate anhydrous

Trisodium citrate anhydride is produced from trisodium citrate dihydrate. Water molecules related to dihydrate crystals are removed in a process without removing the original crystal matrix. The resulting crystals have a porous shape that can be used as a carrier for minerals and / or organics such as perfumes and surfactants.

Trisodium citrate anhydride does not add water to formulas due to its low water content. It even has a very good ability to absorb excess water from moisture-sensitive formulas and thus provides better durability for the final product.

Therefore, trisodium citrate anhydrous finds its special uses in water-sensitive formulations such as instant drinks as well as tablets and powders in medicines and detergents.

Trisodium citrate anhydride appears as white, granular crystals or white crystalline powder. It dissolves freely in water and is practically insoluble in ethanol (96%). It is a non-toxic and neutral salt with low reactivity.

If stored at room temperature, it is chemically stable. Trisodium citrate anhydrous is completely biodegradable and can be disposed of with ordinary waste or sewage.
